FAQ: Failed to open port.

SMTP Server

If the category for the entry in the Event Log is SMTP Server then eXchange WALL cannot open a port on this computer to listen for connections from the Internet or Exchange Server. This usually happens due to another program opening the port that eXchange WALL requires.
In the eXchange WALL administration program go to
eXchange WALL Configuration Incoming Mail
If you do not send outgoing mail from Exchange Server through eXchange WALL and you only receive messages from the Internet using POP3 then you can disable the SMTP Server by entering 0 in the Port field in the Advanced section.
If you do send outgoing mail from Exchange Server through eXchange WALL and/or you receive messages from the Internet via SMTP then verify that the port number in the Advanced section is set correctly. The value should be:
25:
- if running eXchange WALL on a different computer than Exchange Server, or
-
if you receive messages from the Internet via SMTP, or
- if running eXchange WALL on same computer as Exchange Server version 5.x or earlier
8025:
- if running eXchange WALL on same computer as Exchange Server 2000 or later and you receive messages from the Internet via POP3
If this does not fix the problem check to see if you are running any email filtering or gateway product. They sometimes open port 25 or 8025 which would interfere with eXchange WALL.
