Overview

eXchange WALL is a gateway (connector) that processes email messages entering and leaving your Exchange Server. Email coming into your organization from the Internet is received by eXchange WALL where it is processed by the rules engine and scanned for viruses. The message is then sent to your Exchange Server. Email from your Exchange Server headed for the Internet may also be sent through eXchange WALL so that it may be processed by the rules engine and scanned for viruses.

Email may come from the Internet directly (using the SMTP protocol) or your organization may have its email received by your ISP and stored in Internet mailboxes (POP3 accounts). eXchange WALL may be configured to download messages from Internet mailboxes and forward them to the proper Exchange Server users.

eXchange WALL consists of 2 programs:

eXchange WALL gateway

The eXchange WALL Gateway is the program that does all the work of processing messages. It runs as a process. A process is a program that has no window interface. On Windows platforms that support it, you can have the process run as a service.

eXchange WALL administrator

The eXchange WALL Administrator is the program that provides a user interface for the Gateway allowing you to monitor and configure the Gateway in real-time. You only need to work with the Administrator program. It handles starting and stopping the Gateway process.

Below is a view of the eXchange WALL Administrator:
